Primed for Liftoff with ClubExpress

In the years since the 1957 launch of Sputnik, the first artificial satellite in Earth’s orbit, rocketry has gained interest among hobbyists the world over. Tripoli Rocketry Association began its journey shortly after, in 1967.

The organization, and the hobby itself, has grown and adapted to new technology and challenges in the decades since, however, the organization found itself struggling with an issue outside the scope of rocket science.

Neal Baker with the Utah Rocket Club, a prefecture of Tripoli Rocketry, faced an entirely terrestrial set of challenges. The IT Committee is small and volunteer, making website updates a complicated and time-consuming process. Tripoli Rocketry Association had similar challenges at the national level. Member data was held in static databases that had to be manually updated on a monthly basis, leading to lags in data and plenty of opportunity for human error in the process.

In 2018, Neal moved Utah Rocket Club to ClubExpress and has seen major gains for the club. The powerful website tools make the club more visible and accessible online, promoting the club and its activities to a wider community. At the national level, committee members in the all-volunteer group can update their individual website sections without the need for IT Committee involvement.

“You don’t have to be an IT person to change a comma to a period,” Neal says.

As Neal moved to the national level of Tripoli Rocketry Association, he brought ClubExpress and its extensive feature set with him. ClubExpress supports the Association’s more than 6,000 members with a streamlined experience, especially with signup and payment options. The Association’s many student members also experience a wealth of tools, including educational materials. Association secretarial duties have been made easier with the constantly updated databases and Ad Hoc Reporting features.

When looking at association management solutions, Neal considered the price point to be incredibly important and has found great satisfaction with ClubExpress.

“It pays for itself,” he says.

In 2022, Tripoli Rocketry Association named ClubExpress their Recommended Partner. The Association plans to make more use of the platform’s features and tools including autorenewals for membership, photo albums, and more active and dynamic websites.
